Eight years ago, Laredoans were incensed when Walls, who moved to Laredo with her child after her husband's job was transferred to the Gateway City, posted a rant about her then-hometown online. In the now infamous video , she would go on to insult various aspects of border culture, including the Spanish-speaking majority, her dislike of Mexican men, locals touching her child's face because of the superstitious mal de ojo, cars with Mexico license plates and her distaste of menudo.
The infamous rant spread like wildfire on social media, with Laredoans jumping in quickly to defend their hometown and attacking Walls' perceived racism. Though Sara would remove soon the video from her YouTube page once she saw the local reaction, copies of the video would continue to be re-uploaded online by locals. The video and Laredo's reaction to it quickly made headlines around the country, with the news covered by Texas Monthly, the Dallas Morning News, CNN and many other outlets.
The Laredo mayor at the time, Raul Salinas, even went on a Pro8News newscast to respond to the video, inviting Walls to his office to talk about her many complaints. Unfortunately, Mr. In appreciation for his valiant actions, a replacement Key to the City of Laredo was awarded to Strunk as a special gift in response to the robbery.
